Kaya's Learners:

My learners are focused in Taiwan where English is a second language. They have limited abilities due to lack of chances to experience authentic environment.

1.The level of the learners are lower intermediate.
2.The age of the learners are seventh graders between age of 13 and 14.
3.The majority of them use Chinese as their first language. Few of them are familiar with Taiwanese rather than Chinese.
4.My learners attitudes toward Enlgish learning is that although English is a main subject, some students neither have motivation nor interest in it.
5.The majority of my students learn English for get high scores and pass the BCA (Basic Competency Assessment) in order to enter a good senior high school.
6.Their education background is that a large number of them have known limited vocabulary and phrases. Although they have studied English since they were in 3rd grade of elementary school, their abilities to use this language are extremely limited.
7.Their purpose of learning English is that nearly few of the students learn English because of their own interests or the consideration of the importance of English. The majority of them regard that it is a class they have to attend inevitably because it is a main subject in secondary school curriculum.

The need to have authentic reasons to practice and use English is certainly very important. One of the things about the use of technology (and the Internet) is the way in which this can generate authentic uses of communication. Have you thought about using blogs with your learners? Would they see this kind of activity as more real, because they have the ability to post about things they know/like?
